We could start by saying that the police had been looking into it for a while… but we won’t. The fact is that the Guardia Civil arrested a 39-year-old Moroccan man who confessed to have stolen eight sets of wing mirrors off cars in Almuñécar.

Several irate car owners had already reported that somebody had stolen their side-view mirrors whilst their cars had been parked on the streets in Almuñécar before a routine, Guardia-Civil patrol stopped a van and upon looking in the back discovered the booty: 16 wing mirrors that the driver couldn’t justify as having bought.

When the police pressed the man further, he confessed to having removed them from parked cars. All of the car owners who had reported ‘mirror theft’ have had their missing appendages returned.

A reflection on the times perhaps. (Roughshod).

When it isn’t Jordanian Air Force personnel, it’s Swiss tourists that think that their scratched-on initials are more decorative than the original walls with exquisite Islamic calligraphy adornment. Is nothing sacred?

On the 7th of January, the Policía Nacional arrested a Swiss woman of Arab descent for carving a heart symbol with her initials on either side in the Cuarto Dorado (Golden Room).

One of the staff warned her to desist, but she carried on until she had finished her ‘work of art.’

The private security firm that looks after this world-famous monument immediately called the police, who promptly carted her off. Once at the police station she refused to make a statement, which is perfectly permissible under Spanish law. As the incident had occurred around half six in the evening and the police paperwork process wasn’t completed until after eleven… they threw the women in the police cells for the night, pending appearing before a judge the next morning.

She was released the next day pending trial without bail conditions.

Back in November, as mentioned above, a Jordanian airman was also caught scratching his initials, but this time within the Palacio de Carlos V, which is attached to the Alhambra. The man was on an official, state mission in Sevilla, tasked with inspecting aircraft for possible purchase for the Royal Jordanian Air Force. The blighter was fined 400 euros after going through the embarrassment of a trial.

A man from Motril has been arrested for punching a Guardia-Civil policeman in the face. Things have changed, because before it was the Guardia Civil that used to punch people, if you were lucky!

The reason that the man hit the policeman in the face was because the traffic police had had the audacity to ask him to pull over because his lights weren’t working.

Now, it must have been a pretty hard punch because the policeman was first taken to Motril hospital, but later transferred to Traumatologia in Granada and put under observation with haemorrhaging and a cranial fracture. His medical condition was ‘serious’ but is now ‘stable.’

Taken aback by his own violent efficiency, he then threatened the other policeman.

It took the intervention of a plainclothes policeman, who was passing by, to assist the remaining officer to carry out an arrest.

The judiciary system often appears to be defective; too slow and often delivers controversial sentences. The case of a petty thief that has been arrested 21 times but still hasn’t been sent to prison is a classic example.

The person in question, a 30-year-old woman, is a thief who operates on the weekends in packed bars and discos. In the latest incident, the 20-year-old victim in a moment of forgetfulness, left her handbag on a table whilst she crossed the room to talk with a friend.

The thief grabbed the bag and quickly left the establishment. The next day she turned up at a bank wearing sunglasses, presented the ID of the victim and withdrew 1,005 euros from the girl’s account.

The police knew who to look for because this ‘operator’ is the only thief in the province that uses this modus operandi. They examined the CCTV footage, confirming their suspicions, and arrested the woman, only to release her pending trial… again.

(Metropolitan Granada) A couple were arrested for growing marijuana on their roof terrace. Now, more than a few people grow wonky weed at home, in planters or flower pots, which is legal, as long as the quantity can be interpreted as ‘personal consumption,’ but the couple had taken the interpretation a little too far.

The couple, aged 22 and 25 respectively, were cultivating plants that had grown so high that they were clearly visible from the street – eight plants, all told. Even though the woman had managed to get rid of some of the plants when the police came knocking, the tiny forest that they had been nurturing, would have served as their personal consumption into the next century, hence the police interpretation that it was being grown for onward sale.

(Granada capital) A 25-year-old man forced the main door of a bank and once inside, decided to bed down for the night next to the managers desk – fair!

The Local Police were alerted by the alarm system, which is connected to the police station, and went round to the branch in question in the Gran Vía de Colón. When they arrived, it was to find the sleepy chap stretched across a couple of comfy chairs with blood on his head – the police say that he must have had an accident prior to breaking in – yeah, yeah, fell down the steps, right?

As there were no signs of his attempting to steal from the bank, they concluded that he only wanted somewhere to pass the night – so they found him somewhere…

The incident occurred when the accused stopped a passerby, asking for cigarette papers for rolling. The victim, a young lad accompanied by friends of the same age, refused, so the elder man then allegedly threatened to kill him.

The man then, without warning, hit the lad with a wooden post in the face and whilst he was on the ground, stabbed him as well as inflicting several slash wounds. The Lad is recovering in hospital.

A court in Jaén has sentenced a man to a 6-month, suspended sentence for mooning two Guardia Civil policemen and then resisting arrest. Mooning, for those of you whose first language is not English, means to take your trousers down and display your buttocks in the direction of somebody. A classic example is that scene in the Braveheart film.

Now mooning a Green Meanie is not as recommended as mooning somebody in a gay rights rally, but some people are born with no sense.

The incident occurred in November 2007 when a patrol car cruised by the man, whose response was to shout, “What the f*** are you looking at, tit heads,” crowning this verbal lunacy with the said anal act of disapproval.
