Policemen Arrested
An internal investigation by the Guardia Civil resulted in the arrest, amongst others, of two G.C. policemen stationed in Almuñécar. The arrest of these two policemen, together with another two policemen from Nerja and another six individuals, also netted literally a tonne of hashish.
The movements of the errant policemen were being monitored by the Internal Investigations Section of the Guardia Civil in Madrid, which lead to the arrested men being caught red-handed during the off-loading of the drugs on a beach near Torrox, next to the mouth of the Río Güi, to be exact.
It was two in the morning on the 2nd of October that the landing took place. The police arrested a man actually unloading the drugs and several other men nearby, but the suspect policemen were not arrested at the time, but a little later, his role, it is alleged, was to inform the smugglers when and where they could land the drug without coming across a Guardia Civil patrol.
The two policemen from the Almuñécar post had been there for about two years. However, one of them, who was transferred from over the border in Málaga, had already raised suspicions before being transferred, and was under observation.
Finally, it is worth mentioning that a Guardia Civil policeman stationed in Motril was arrested last month on a drug-related offence.
